The U.S. Coast Guard is trying to find a cruise ship passenger from Australia who went overboard en path to Hawaii, simply 500 miles south of Kailua Kona.
“Joint Rescue Coordination Middle Honolulu acquired a report from the cruise ship Quantum of the Seas of a person overboard at 11:03 p.m. Tuesday night,” the coast guard mentioned in a launch. “The crew of the cruise ship remained on scene to seek for roughly two hours, deploying six life rings.”
The coast guard deployed an aircrew to seek for the passenger early Wednesday morning and, after hours of looking out, returned to land to refuel and start once more early Thursday morning.
The Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas ship, which is about to dock Friday morning in Honolulu has been at sea for 15 days after departing from Brisbane, Australia.
“Whereas on its trans-pacific crusing, a visitor onboard Quantum of the Seas went overboard,” Royal Caribbean confirmed in an announcement, per ABC7. “The ship’s crew instantly launched a search and rescue operation and is working intently with native authorities.”
There have been no additional particulars launched concerning the incident or what might need occurred.
Royal Caribbean did verify that the person falling overboard occurred simply days after a lady died on the ship resulting from a medical emergency. Each incidents are remoted as the person and the lady didn’t know one another.
“[The staff] began doing bulletins over the loudspeaker saying ‘potential man overboard’ and that everybody had to return to their room,” passenger Adam Gelzer advised Australian outlet Information.Com.Au. “I’ve spoken to staff who’ve been engaged on ships for years they usually mentioned they’ve by no means seen something like this occur earlier than.”
